Role:
To provide direction and leadership on statistical, econometric and analytical deliverables, to provide an interface (both internally and externally) on analytics activity, and to provide quality assurance on all work undertaken by the team.
Key accountabilities:
This role will represent the team on all analytics matters, working closely with other teams in The Pensions Regulator to acquire relevant data to produce timely analysis and work with external analytics team to develop relationships to share best practice and findings, where relevant;
- To provide managerial and technical support to the analysis team, ensuring that the output of the team is of the highest quality;
- Interface with senior management to develop and share strategic insights and evidence;
- Build and develop an analytical function to include financial and company risk modelling, econometric modelling and market forecasting
- Build and develop a modelling infrastructure in SAS, Mathematica, MS SQL Server 2005 and other standard tools as appropriate.
- Specify and manage development of risk and market segmentations;
- Specify and deliver a Bayesian knowledge base for UK pensions market scenario modelling;
- Contribute to business-wide data strategy;
- Specify and manage projects with external consultancies and agencies;
- Specify and oversee a data management code base in SAS/SQL.
Essential knowledge and core skills:
- Postgraduate / degree level maths / econometrics / statistics or similar numerate subject;
- Strong commercial experience of best practice in developing, leading development of credit risk and forecasting models in the workplace, and of embedding them into business process;
- Management experience of managing a team of analytic staff
- Strong commercial experience of best practice in risk segmentation techniques and implementation
- Strong analytical and statistical testing skills, evidenced across complex projects;
- Ability to quickly assimilate, select and apply complex mathematical and statistical approaches to research and analysis;
- Expert user of SAS
- Experience of implementing statistical testing regime to test research hypotheses;
- Commercial experience of data cleansing and model building on data sets with millions of records and hundreds of fields.
- Ability to understand business issues and translate into analytical deliverables;
- Clear evidence of strong project management and multi-tasking skills;
- Good understanding of cost benefit analysis and risk assessment techniques;
- Good working knowledge of econometrics and econometric modelling;
- Ability to train the team’s analysts in statistical modelling concepts;
- Ability to communicate complex statistical outcomes to senior management in an easy to comprehend manner;
- Ability to draw actionable insight from statistical analysis and communicate to rest of organisation;
