We used the resources available on our website to help in the task of assessing our workforce.
Our initial assessment gave us a good idea of the categories of worker we have.
My colleagues and I referred to the 7 steps to prepare for automatic enrolment leaflet, which provided an overview of the main things we needed to work on. Having already established our staging date, we could move onto step 2: assessing our workforce.
We used the Employer duties and defining the workforce guidance for reference and pinned up The different types of worker diagram, an at-a-glance reminder of the criteria for eligible and non-eligible jobholders and entitled workers. Our initial assessment gave us a good idea of the categories of worker we have. This was a relatively straightforward assessment, albeit with a few grey areas that we know we’ll have to investigate further (eg some Board members and some employees nearing state pension age).
The next step was to assess our employees as a group to establish with certainty which categories of worker we have.
