Request

I would like to know, from the scheme returns in respect of defined benefit and hybrid schemes falling in Tranche 10:

  • the aggregate proportions of Section 179 liabilities split by active, deferred and pensioner members, across pre 6 April 1997, 6 April 1997 to 5 April 2009 and post 5 April 2009 (ie section 15.7 of the scheme return)
  • the aggregate average ages of active, deferred and pensioner members weighted by protected liabilities (ie section 15.8 of the scheme return)

Response

I can confirm that we hold the information you have requested.

Information we are able to supply

  • the aggregate proportions of Section 179 liabilities split by active, deferred and pensioner members, across pre 6 April 1997, 6 April 1997 to 5 April 2009 and post 5 April 2009 (ie section 15.7 of the scheme return)

The following information is relevant to schemes with Tranche 10 valuation dates (that is, schemes with valuation dates falling in the period: 22 September 2014 to 21 September 2015 inclusive). As valuation dates vary across schemes within a given tranche, the summary provided is based on data effective at different dates.

Proportion of (aggregate) section 179 liabilities reported for active, deferred and pensioner members
Active members Deferred pensioner members Pensioner members
Pre April 1997 3.8% 14.7% 28.7%
Post April 1997/ pre April 2009 11.8% 19.6%
Post April 1997     12.9%
Post April 2009 6.6% 1.9%
  • the aggregate average ages of active, deferred and pensioner members weighted by protected liabilities (ie section 15.8 of the scheme return)

For schemes with Tranche 10 valuations only, the (unweighted) averages of reported average ages (weighted by protected liabilities) are: active 52 years, deferred 52 years and pensioner members 69 years.
