FOI reference - FOI-5056
Date - 8 September 2020

In the press release linked below, it is stated that "a number of police raids have taken place" since "Project Bloom, a government led task force, was set up to tackle pension fraud".

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 I seek the following information on Project Bloom:

  1. Police raids that have taken place as a result of Project Bloom. In each case, I would like to know: The day, month and year of the police raid. The police force that carried out the raid.
  2. If you are unable to provide a response to question 1, I would like to know the total number of police raids that have taken place as a result of Project Bloom.

I can confirm that we do not hold information falling within scope of your request.

Information we are not able to supply

We do not hold information which will enable us to answer either of the above questions. You may wish to contact the City of London Police and the National Crime Agency to review whether they hold the requested information.

Project Bloom is an unfunded, voluntary project led by The Pensions Regulator (TPR) that aims to reduce the harm from pension scams through collaborative working with Government departments, regulators, law enforcement and industry. Pension Scams are a complex problem and we view prevention as the most powerful tool we have.

While Project Bloom brings together stakeholders with different remits it does not have a dedicated enforcement arm, as a result any warrants will be executed by law enforcement agencies or bodies with the relevant capability. In some circumstances this will involve joint working between organisations that take part in Project Bloom and other Police Forces. Project Bloom also facilitates the sharing of information and expertise that can assist independent action by participating organisations.

TPR does not hold a central log of enforcement activity undertaken by Project Bloom partners.
