Role

We’re looking for a Lead Business Analyst to:

  • lead, line manage and develop members of the Business Analysis (BA) team in the delivery of specialist advice in relation to defined benefit (DB) pension schemes and master trusts and also policy related work
  • be a visible role model within the BA team who provides support to the Head of BA on management, high risk cases and operational matters
  • ensure effective communications and knowledge sharing between respective internal peer groups

Responsibilities

You will:

  • be a visible and accessible role model embodying TPR values
  • lead and line manage members of the BA team (case) and take responsibility for their engagement, performance, learning and development
  • manage team resources, effective work prioritisation and team working
  • be the main point of contact for case BA workload issues; escalate matters when identified for further discussion and decision-making with Head of BA
  • allocate calibrations to BA team members and ensure timely completion to a sufficient standard
  • work on the development of future calibration models with actuarial colleagues
  • work with the Head of BA to ensure that thought sharing takes place across the wider BA team and that professional requirements are met and are continually reviewed to remain fit for purpose
  • support the Head of BA with regard to the budgeting process and objective setting
  • provide financial expertise to ensure the successful outcome of cases in line with our statutory and corporate objectives
  • support supervisors in all aspects of relationship supervision
  • develop and influence appropriate scheme funding plans for high-risk schemes
  • lead on providing training and education to supervisors, policy team and non financial advisors on broader pension issues with effective delegation to BA team members
  • contribute to project and authorisation and supervision case teams with specific, technical analysis and recommendations to assist decision making
  • feedback successful and useful interventions and approaches to the broader business analysis team
  • assist the Head of BA in providing/overseeing strategic and operational advice to the CM&I case teams, Policy and other operational areas
  • represent the team at all relevant management meetings and panels when Head of BA is unable to attend
  • mentor business analysis in their team and provide oversight of significant authorisation and supervision advice in conjunction with the Head of BA
  • share knowledge of case issues, best practice and successful interventions with Head of BA

Provide support and insight to the Head of BA in relation to:

  • strategic and complex business issues and risks that will impact on TPR's abilities to meet all of its regulatory objectives now and in the future
  • strategic solutions to these issues
  • being a credible representative for TPR at external events

Essential and desirable criteria

  • Qualified accountant, bank restructuring professional or qualified by experience.
  • Pensions environment strategic trends and issues, especially in relation to authorisation and supervision of master trusts.
  • Extensive knowledge of TPR’s clearance process and an understanding of how these may apply in DB consolidation.
  • Experienced in financial analysis and investigative techniques especially in relation to issues arising from possible material detriment which arises when schemes and employers are separated.
  • Industry sectors knowledge and experience / commercial awareness.
  • International markets.
  • Project / programme management principles and techniques.
  • Experience of leading a team.
  • Experience of setting team and individual objectives and developing and motivating high performance teams.
  • People management.
