Role

We’re looking for a Database administrator / SQL developer that will:

  • design, estimate, implement, plan and test new database systems, as defined by the project portfolio
  • provide administration, monitoring, and performance tuning of operational and test database systems
  • provide support for production systems by triaging, investigating and fixing defects
  • maintain a high standard of data solutions, through code reviews, knowledge sharing, mentoring and process improvement

Responsibilities

You will:

  • analyse, estimate and prioritise work items to achieve the best outcome
  • work individually to investigate, prioritise and solve problems in production systems
  • design and deliver coding solutions, by choosing appropriate design principles and techniques to use within the technical framework defined by the architecture team
  • manage and control problems and change within area of responsibility, including negotiation with other teams as necessary
  • engage with business users to gather information regarding systems defects and requirements for change

Essential criteria

  • Knowledge of the database development lifecycle gained through broad practical experience of building business database solutions, including line of business and Business Intelligence/ reporting solutions.
  • Deep knowledge of the SQL Server platform, relational databases, and SQL.
  • Experience and understanding of cloud concepts and database solutions on Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience of investigating and diagnosing technical problems in complex business systems.
  • Experienced in data analysis, data modelling, database design and optimisation including normalisation / de-normalisation, indexing, partitioning, query tuning, and designing for concurrency.
  • Good understanding of extract / transform / load techniques and tools (including SSIS), data archiving principles, and capacity planning.
  • Broad understanding of data security principles and methods including access control and data encryption solutions.
  • Good understanding data quality principles, cleansing, and relevant tools.
  • Good understanding of testing principles and techniques (TDD, Automated Testing).
  • Experience and understanding of the use of Agile methodologies to plan, develop, test and deliver data solutions.
