Role

The Pensions Regulator requires a Product Owner to lead on the agile implementation of a new Azure data platform and BI capability. The platform is one of the outputs of a new programme of work delivering major technology change. This role will be working closely with our Microsoft Gold partner to modernise and invest in state of the art data and analytical capabilities.

This will include the leadership of a varied programme of work supported by a team of experts whom require your direction on resources, organising, prioritising and allocating tasks, collaborating and communicating across the programme and the business, making workstream decisions about risks, issues and dependencies and resolving any conflicts that arise from these.  The Product Owner will be accountable to delivering data led business benefits to senior stakeholders across the organisation.

Responsibilities

You will:

  • lead on decision making and overall direction for data platform workstream, consulting with partner experts and senior product owners 
  • work with internal change teams to oversee the incremental development and roll out of the new product and capabilities to over 100 business users 
  • lead the planning increment activity for the workstream that delivers the plans and product backlogs (workloads) with a 3-month horizon
  • be accountable for the execution of the plans and product backlogs and, in turn, for the delivery of the minimum viable product to the agreed definition of done and delivery of the defined business benefits
  • work with the scrum master and delivery lead to ensure the team resources are allocated and directed appropriately to achieve maximum value against the roadmap
  • be responsible for overseeing proper workstream governance, ensuring that the correct forums are engaged at the right time and in the right way for decisions and information, including presenting papers at forums (eg: Programme Board) in person, as required
  • no budget responsibilities

Essential and desirable criteria  

Essential

  • strong background and demonstrable experience in agile backlog management and prioritisation.
  • leadership or management experience in a change environment
  • experience of implementing or managing BI solutions to a large audience (Power BI, Tableau, etc)
  • an understanding of Azure data architecture or similar
  • basic understanding of data governance principles
  • experience of negotiating requirements in a fast moving agile environment
  • able to translate BI strategy into a working product
  • ability to translate jargon and technical language into plain English for non-technical audience.

Desirable

  • a working knowledge of the UK pensions system
  • an interest in data science and analytics techniques
