Role

We’re looking for someone to deliver and maintain tactical and strategic IT systems to support the business:

  • design, estimate, implement, plan and test new database systems, as defined by the project portfolio
  • provide administration, monitoring, and performance tuning of operational and test database systems
  • provide support for production systems by triaging, investigating and fixing defects
  • maintain a high standard of data solutions, through code reviews, knowledge sharing, mentoring and process improvement

Responsibilities

  • Analyse, estimate and prioritise work items to achieve the best outcome.
  • Work individually to investigate, prioritise and solve problems in production systems .
  • Design and deliver coding solutions, by choosing appropriate design principles and techniques to use within the technical framework defined by the architecture team.
  • Manage and control problems and change within area of responsibility, including negotiation with other teams as necessary.

Essential and desirable criteria

  • Deep knowledge of administering and maintaining a SQL Server infrastructure up to SQL Server 2019 including HA/DR, Availability Groups, Change Data Capture / Change Tracking.
  • Experience and understanding of cloud concepts, Iaas and PaaS database solutions on Microsoft Azure
  • Experience of investigating and diagnosing technical problems, and performance tuning in complex business systems
  • Good understanding of extract / transform / load techniques and tools (including SSIS and / or Azure Data Factory), data archiving principles, and capacity planning
  • Experienced in data analysis, data modelling, database design, database development, and optimisation including normalisation / de-normalisation, indexing, partitioning, T-SQL query tuning / optimisation, designing for concurrency. Development of stored procedures, views, triggers, and functions.
  • Experience and understanding of the use of Agile methodologies including Database DevOps to plan, develop, test and deliver data solutions.
  • Knowledge of Powershell and C# desirable.
