Authorisation of existing master trusts

Applications for existing master trusts to apply for authorisation are now closed.

If you’ve already applied, you can read how the decision will be made here:

If you suspect your scheme is operating as a master trust and haven’t applied for authorisation, you must immediately notify us by emailing

You’ll be required to submit a triggering event notification form. We’ll then work closely with you to make sure you exit the market in a timely and orderly way.

If you’re not sure if your scheme is a master trust, you can check by using our guide.

New schemes

If you’re planning to set up a new scheme, you will need to apply for authorisation of a new master trust. If your scheme is not already registered with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC), you will also need to apply to HMRC for registration.
