Find out your staging date

Introduction

The new employer duties are being introduced over 5 years, for existing employers, starting with the UK's largest companies in 2012.

The date when the law is 'switched on' for your business is known as your 'staging date'.

To find out your staging date, you'll need to know:

Notes

  1. For employers with 250 or more workers this tool will provide your indicative staging date.
  2. For employers with fewer than 250 workers, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has proposed changes to the staging dates previously published. This tool uses the proposed new dates, published for consultation on 23/03/2012. As such, you should check your staging date after these dates have been finalised and approved by parliament.
  3. If you employed fewer than 50 people (full-time equivalent) on 1 April 2012 and are part of a PAYE scheme with 50 or more people in it, you'll need to use ourĀ staging date timeline to look up your staging date.

Important note

Your staging date will be based on the number of people in your PAYE scheme on 1 April 2012.

Some businesses run more than one PAYE scheme. If this applies to you, you'll need to enter the details of each scheme into this tool. The staging date for your business will be the one that's earliest.
