FOI reference - FOI-232
Date - 27 March 2024

Request

  1. Please could you share the number of whistleblowing reports received during this time period (between 1 January 2023 and 22 February 2024), and the number of reports TPR chose to investigate?
  2. Could you share how many people formally complained through TPRs complaints process during this period?

Response

I confirm that we hold the information you have requested.

For the period 1 January 2023 to 22 February 2024:

  1. TPR received 9,487 reports, and TPR chose to investigate 455 reports. 9,487 reports’ refers to all concerns raised with us by savers in relation to automatic enrolment, including whistleblower reports *
  2. There were 99 people who formally complained through TPRs complaints process.

* Updated as of 24 June 2024: We received 9,487 reports from savers relating to concerns about their employers in relation to their automatic enrolment duties between 1 January 2023 and 22 February 2024, mainly via contact with our customer support team. This compares with 8,278 reports in the period 1 January 2022 and 22 February 2023. This rise is consistent with the increasing numbers of savers enrolled in workplace pensions. More than 2.3 million employers have declared their compliance with their Automatic Enrolment duties since 2012, collectively newly enrolling just over 11 million people into workplace pensions to date. Last year alone TPR engaged directly with more than 600,000 employers to support compliance, and, through enforcement, recovered more than £135 million in missing pension contributions (2022 to 2023).
