About us

More than half the UK working population rely on The Pensions Regulator (TPR) to regulate their retirement savings, we protect more than £2trn of savings for in excess of 30 million people.

This is an exciting time for TPR. The pensions sector is at a pivotal moment – whilst most pensions assets are still in defined benefit schemes, after the success of automatic enrolment most pension savers are now within defined contribution schemes. This constitutes a major shift in focus for TPR. Across this landscape our key priorities are to:

  • protect savers money by making schemes and employers comply with their duties
  • enhance the system through effective market oversight, influencing better practices
  • support innovation in savers interests so that new products and services deliver good outcomes

We have a proven track record of successfully implementing, anticipating, and adapting to changes in the complex pensions landscape here at TPR. The challenge now is to move forward and ensure that DB pension savers continue to get their promised benefits, and DC savers get value for money for their pension savings pot, whilst supporting innovation in the interests of all pensions savers.

The evolution of TPR means we will see a move to being a more proactive and influential regulator, with effective market oversight and a greater focus on innovation underpinned by strong data and digital capability, and making our focus on regulatory compliance ever more effective and efficient.
