What is a staging date?

A staging date only applies to an organisation or business that employed staff before 1 October 2017. If this originally applied to you, your staging date would have been the date that your legal duties began.

If you employ staff for the first time on or after 1 October 2017, your legal duties begin on the day your first member of staff starts work. This is known as your duties start date. You must work out how much each member of staff earns and how old they are. Use our online tool to find out what you need to do to meet your legal duties for automatic enrolment.

Whether you’re an employer who originally had a staging date or you have a duties start date, you can find the key dates listed on the letter or email you received.
